The Amazing Race is back tonight! I apologize for being so late with a cast preview blog, but I’ve been really busy with school, and then had some trouble with WordPress. Here’s a quick preview of the racers before the premiere of The Amazing Race Season 27 tonight!
First up are cousins Alex Manard & Adam Dingeman. Adam is a server who is grew up in Iowa, and one of his favorite hobbies is storm chasing in the Midwest. Alex works in retail sales, and thinks that his cousin talks too much. I have a feeling these two could get loud if things start to go badly on the race.
Second are married couple Cindy and Rick Chac from San Diego, California. Cindy is a dentist, and she showed a good sense of humor when describing her job and her husband in the cast interview. Cindy revealed that her husband can be very confrontational, which I’m sure will make for interesting TV. Rick is an OB/GYN, and he thinks that there could be some problems on the race because both he and Cindy are so stubborn. Both Rick and Cindy said that they’ve been having problems as a couple, and they’re hoping to resolve them on the race. We’ll see how that goes…
Next are mother and son Denise WIlliams and James Corley from Pratville, Alabama. Denise is an administrative assistant who wants to prove to her son that she doesn’t have a problem with him being gay, because he thinks that she does. James is a resident physician that likes running, baking and watching movies. He hopes to reconnect with his mom, because they weren’t on speaking terms for a while after he came out. I hope that the race brings them closer together, and shows James that his mom loves him unconditionally.
Ernest Phillips and Jin Lao are brothers from Boston, MA. Ernest has five jobs: dance instructor, hotel maid, stock-boy, home care provider for brain trauma patients, and personal trainer. Ernest seems pretty confident, describing himself as a hustler and very into fitness. Jin is a student and stock boy who is interested in parkour, video games, and film making. Both teammates seem to have big egos, so it’ll be interesting to see who takes charge in the race.
Jazmine Lewis and Danielle Littleton are best friends from California. Jazmine is a LA Galaxy Star Squad Girl who describes herself as outspoken, outgoing and high maintenance. Danielle is a student at UC Riverside, where she is on the track team. These friends refer to each other as Kim Kardashian (Jazmine) and Kourtney Kardashian (Danielle), and they both discussed their tendency to fight. We’ll see if these two are just on TAR to be reality stars like the Kardashians, or to actually win it.
The next racers are an engaged couple, Justin Scheman and Diana Bishop. Justin is a radio personality from the Bronx who proposed to Diana with her very own Amazing Race. Diana is a 6th grade teacher, which has been her dream since she was five years old. Diana says that she is similar to Zooey Deschanel, which I hope is true, because watching Zooey run TAR would be awesome.
Racers Kelly Berning and Shevonne Sullivan are friends and coworkers at TMZ. Kelly is a television editior, and her proudest accomplishment is when President Barack Obama followed her on Twitter. Shevonne is a post production supervisor who grew up in Taunton, MA and moved to Los Angeles. Both teammates say that they have trouble giving up control, which could lead to sparks flying on the race.
Dating couple Kelsey Gerckens and Joey Buttitta are coworkers at KEYT-TV in
Santa Barbara, California. Kelsey is a news reporter who hopes that the race will prove whether she and Joey should get more serious. Joey is a news anchor who can lose his patience easily, which should be interesting in the high pressure situations of TAR. Joey likes golf, reading and working out, and hopes that he and Kelsey have a great time on the race.
Logan Fazio and Chris Gordon are dating business partners who work as paparazzi photographers. Logan enjoys snorkeling and underwater photography, paddle boarding, going to art museums, and traveling. Logan seems funny, I’m interested to see if she and Chris can work together, or if they’ll self destruct on national television, as Logan fears. Chris became a father at 17, and his son Matthew is now a 28 year old MIT graduate who is working for a start-up business in San Fransisco. Both Chris and Logan say that TAR will either strengthen their relationship, or be the indicator that they should call it quits.
Up next are Tanner Kloven and Josh Ahern, who are best friends from Texas. Tanner is a pharmaceutical sales rep, and although he has a fear of flying he still craves adventure. Tanner says both he and Josh are competitive and hard-headed, so they may have some arguments during the race. Josh sells medical devices to veterinarians and animal hospitals. Josh enjoys church, sports, and movies, and thinks that Tanner’s hair deserves its own Instagram account, since it always has to be perfect.
Last but not least are friends Tiffany Chantell and Krista Debono, who are both former NFL cheerleaders for the NY Jets. Tiffany is a consultant for physicians in healthcare, and her favorite hobbies are dancing, fitness/working out, and hair extensions (I guess that counts?). Tiffany says that she and Krista are both very stubborn, and it annoys her that Krista doesn’t face conflicts head on when she is mad, she just talks under her breath. Krista is a speech pathologist whose biggest accomplishment is making an NFL cheerleading team while earning her master’s degree. Both Tiffany and Krista are sure that the race will strengthen their bond, and show them new things about each other.
What do you think about the cast this season? Besides the obvious frontrunners – the muscular male teams – I haven’t quite decided who will most likely win. I’m looking forward to watching the racers tonight, to get more of a feel for their personalities, as well as their strengths and weaknesses on TAR. If I had to pick my top two teams right now, it would be Justin & Diana and Logan & Chris. Let me know who your favorite racers are, and if watching them on TAR changed any opinions you had from the cast preview interviews.
