We begin this leg of the race in the City of Love with Natalie and Meaghan leaving first. Birthday birthday boy Jinder and sister Sukhi not far behind. We are keeping with the french theme of the last two weeks and teams are headed to Montreal, Quebec. Newly engaged couple Audrey and Alain are definitely going to have a home turf advantage here since this is where they are from. Can the Quebecers pull out a first place finish in their home town. Audrey is dying to tell someone her good news and see Meaghan at the airport and shows her ring to her. It’s not long before all the teams start arriving and the good news gets passed down. Everyone seems to forget the race for a split second and is genuinely happy for the couple. Remember Audrey you promised Mickey, Pete and everyone they were invited to the wedding. We will hold you do that Audrey, we have you on tape! We have a little bit of drama at the airport when Ryan and Rob are face to face with their U turn nemesis Sukhi and Jinder. The boys point out that the U-turn was unnecessary, they already had to do a speed bump and they expected more from them since they had been through it themselves. What makes this show truely Canadian is Sukhi actually apologized for U-turning them, and admitted that it wasn’t very nice. You would never see that on TAR US. I could just see Rachel Reilly going bananas at someone confronting her. I think Sukhi is genuinely apologetic to the boys even though they aren’t very receptive to it. Would I have uturned the boys? Probably not, but in a race for a lot of cash all is fair within in the confines of the rules, so u-turn away, just know you could be facing social media torture for your actions. Plus remember when Sukhi and Jinder were begging for help and no one help them. I love Ryan and Rob but pay back is a you know what right? Would you have offered an apology to the boys, even if you didn’t mean it?
When the teams land in Montreal they must search Pierre Elliot Trudeau for the Air Canada priority check in counter for their next clue. All the teams are bunched up together at this point and its anyone’s race. They must make their was to the Old Miravel Airport to Circuit ICar. Sukhi and Jinder really have their languages confused in the last three legs of the race. In France they were using Spanish, Italian, English and some butchered up French. Today they think they are in Mexico and are telling the cabbie “Rapido” Oh Sukhi and Jinder I love you but stop trying to use languages you don’t know. Sukhi and Jinder are in first but the Olympians over take them. It’s not long before Audrey and Alain pass both of them and arrive at the roadblock first. Who Can Turn On A Dime? is the question of the day. One team member must suit up like a race car driver and learn and perform 2 precision skills, the quarter drift and the reverse 180. You would think that stunt driver Alain would have this sewn up but no! Our female hockey player Meaghan proves whatever guys can do girls can do better and is first out of the roadblock. Jinder is having the time of his life on his birthday in Montreal. What guy isn’t excited to be driving a Camaro full throttle for his birthday? After some practise most teams are out of there pretty quickly. Alain has the hardest time and the team that arrived first leaves this task last. So much for home town advantage right?
Once done with the roadblock, everyone must make their way by cab to Atwater Market and search the corner of Avenue Atwater and Rue St.Ambrose for the next clue. Natalie and Meaghan get confused as whether they should look in the market or just on the street and blow their lead figuring it out. Sukhi and Jinder hit the clue box seconds after they arrive and the both contemplate doing the Detour or the second Fast Forward of the Race. Sukhi and Jinder waste no time deciding Fast Forward is the way to go and they make their way to an unknown task at Parisian Laundry. For the Detour Teams choose from FLAMED or GRILLED. In Flamed they must learn the art of making glass beads using Fire. They need to recreate 5 specific beads to make a necklace by watching a demonstration. The lady doing the demonstration is NOT allowed to talk at all. In Grilled they need to locate a Grilled Cheese Cart and sample 10 different grilled cheese sandwiches then they have to run to another cart and identify from taste the 10 different kind of cheeses. OH I’d be so torn. On one hand when on The Amazing Race if there is a food challenge you should normally take it unless its nasty food like snake. It’s a chance to eat for free without eating up valuable time and I do love a good grilled cheese. On the other hand you could find yourself eating A LOT of cheese and making yourself sick. Everyone chooses Grilled, but quickly Audrey and Alain figure out they will never get it and switch roadblocks. Ryan and Rob try to close up their gap by trying to beat Sukhi and Jinder in our mysterious fast forward. I think I’d try grilled cheese get a few in my belly see if I could tell the difference and then head off to make some beads. What task would you have chosen?
While teams are stuffing their faces with cheese and Audrey and Alain are being told the beads aren’t good enough. Sukhi and Jinder are posing for artists painting their portrait. What they thought was going to be a laundromat turned out to be an art studio. They chose a pose and what they don’t know is they will be asked to remove their clothes until they are either too uncomfortable to continue or they are totally naked and the artists finish their work. Ryan and Rob join them and we have a battle of the wills at the fast forward. Ryan is a model so this is in his wheel house. Sukhi and Jinder are a little shocked when told to removed their clothes to their underwear and Sukhi is very concerned she is only in a thong. The boys just rip their clothes off no problem. Then they are told to remove EVERYTHING! What better way for Jinder to spend his birthday than in his birthday suit with his sister right behind him! Yes they have a lot of explaining to do to mom and dad. I will give these two credit. They did it without hesitation just the promise that Jinder won’t look back and Sukhi will keep her eyes to herself. Before the boys could get down to nothing (and I really wanted to see Rob as naked as network TV would allow) Sukhi and Jinder win the fast forward and are off to the pit stop. Check out Sukhi and Jinder’s reaction to seeing the finished portrait before they make their way to the pit stop. Would you have stripped naked with your sister to win a leg of the race? I can say absolutely NOT but good for Sukhi and Jinder! Ryan and Rob dress quick and are off to eat grilled cheese sandwiches. We learn that food tasting is the downfall of our athletes but Mickey and Pete are champs. At one point the girls ask for help and they boys decline. Even when saying no we won’t help these guys manage to sound so sweet doing it. Mickey and Pete take their cheese filled bellies and go. Natalie and Meaghan aren’t far behind. Audrey and Alain get a handle on the bead and finally are out of the detour. Would you have helped the winners of 6 legs of the race complete a challenge? I know it’s not the nice thing to do but I’d be with Mickey and Pete on this one!
After completing the detour the teams must make their way to Square Victoria Metro Station and look for their next clue. Luckily for all these cheese filled racers they now get to make their way to the pit stop. They are all on the way to Le Belvedere in The Montreal Science Center to meet Jon and find out their fate. Sukhi and Jinder are obviously team number 1 after completing the fast forward. Happy Birthday Jinder, not only did you race rad cars, pose nude with your sister and win your first leg of the race you also get a trip to Milan and 3000 dollars. I’d say that is a pretty kick ass birthday! Mickey and Pete are 2nd with Natalie and Meaghan right on their heels in 3rd. While driving to the pit stop Alain and Audrey pass the Grilled detour and see Ryan and Rob still plugging away at identifying cheese. They check in fourth. Ryan and Rob actually switched detours and ended up finishing the bead challenge. We know now that no matter what the fun-loving Bartenders are checking in last BUT wait! Canada gets a present on Jinder’s birthday too. It’s a non elimination round and Ryan and Rob are saved for a second time. See how Ryan and Rob feel about being spared a second time! I know this sounds cheesy (pun intended) but I really do love the cast of this season and want none of them to go home so I am excited to see what PEI has in store for us. Can the Olympians regain first place or will Mickey and Pete take it from Sukhi and Jinder? If I had to predict now I’d say either Sukhi and Jinder or Natalie and Meaghan walk away with this race. Who do you think will win TAR Canada Season 2?
