Last week on RuPaul’s Drag Race, the queens were invited to the first ever DESPY awards, where they presented and received awards! Pearl finally started to come out of her shell and managed to win the challenge, while Mrs. Kasha Davis sashayed away from the competition. For a complete recap of last week’s episode, click here.
We begin after the elimination of Mrs. Kasha Davis last week. The queens are all excited that they made it to the single digits. Kandy Ho is convinced that she is only made to lip sync for her life to take out the other queens. Really, bitch? No one gets this cocky and gets away with it. Meanwhile, Miss Fame is over Pearl’s toxic “IDGAF” attitude.
The nine remaining queens are having a lively discussion about sex… well most of them are. Max, the killjoy that he is, is having no part of this discussion as it is too crude for his liking. I can’t be the only one who doesn’t like Max, am I right? I mean, just because you ALWAYS wear grey wigs (such a tired look for Max) doesn’t mean you HAVE to have the stuffy old woman personality to match!
Ru enters the werk room and informs them of their next mini-challenge and we are treated to a whole gang of hot, half-naked hunks from the Pit Crew! For this mini-challenge, the queens will one by one pick a member of the Pit Crew to reach into his briefs and pull something out… NOT THAT YOU SICK FREAK! Each member of the Pit Crew has either a number or a monster in his underwear! The queens try to get as high a score as possible and lock it in before a monster is pulled out… which is game over. The only queen to manage to freeze their score before revealing a monster is Ginger Minj and she is the winner of this mini-challenge!
For this week’s main challenge, Ru announces that they will be acting in the behind-the-scenes reenactment series #RuHollywoodStories. The queens will be starring in one of three reenactments of “Whatever Happened to Merle Ginsberg?” Merle was one of the judges of Drag Race before Michelle Visage came along and smothered her with her ginormous breasts and took over her spot. One group will be reenacting from Merle’s point of view, one will be reenacting from Michelle’s point of view and the third group will tell the story according to RuPaul! As the winner of the mini-challenge, Ginger gets to assign teams. She will be working with Kennedy and Katya to reenact the story from Merle’s perspective, while Max, Violet and Kandy will tell the story from Michelle’s perspective. Miss Fame, Jaidynn and Pearl will tell the story from Ru’s point of view.
The queens all get busy rehearsing their lines under the direction of Ross Matthews, and some of them have an easier time of it than others. Kennedy sucks at her lines as she tries to play the part of RuPaul. Kandy Ho isn’t much better as she keeps flubbing the same line over and over. Miss Fame struggles as she worries about her performance and thinks she has hit a wall. I swear, these queens always pick the worst times to have their little meltdowns.
As the queens are in the werk room getting ready to hit the main stage, Jaidynn has a moment as he reveals that he has not officially come out to his family as gay, yet they know he is a drag queen. No shade here, but I think being a drag queen is a pretty big tip off that you are gay. Needless to say, it is still a touching moment seeing the other queens show their support for Jaidynn as he shares his struggle of coming out and his fear that he will be rejected by his family.
Back to the main stage of RuPaul’s Drag Race as the queens showcase their looks. This week’s theme is “Death Becomes Her.” The queens each show off their interpretations of what killed them. It was fun to watch and I personally loved it! Some of the best looks belonged to Katya, who had a shark attached to her leg as if it were eating her alive and Jaidynn Diore Fierce who portrayed an escaped convict who got caught in the barbed wire trying to break out of prison to see her baby daddy. Let’s not forget Violet Chachki who came out with an oxygen tank and (OMG!) the tiniest cinched waist we have ever seen on Drag Race. I seriously do not know how she does that and doesn’t need to be hospitalized afterwards.
It’s now time to watch the finished videos of the queens portraying what “really” happened to Merle Ginsberg! The interpretations were all funny, but Ginger stole the show with her interpretation of “evil bitch” Michelle Visage. Jaidynn’s portrayal of RuPaul seemed very awkward and not well-timed at all. The winning team, not surprisingly, was Ginger’s team! Katya was the winner of this week’s challenge because she had the best look on the runway this week.
Ru announces that this week’s bottom two are Jaidynn Diore Fierce and Kandy Ho (AGAIN). It is now time for the two to LIP SYNC FOR THEIR LIFE! They lip sync to “Break Free” Ariana [Nachos Bell] Grande. In the end, Kandy Ho FINALLY sashays away from the competition!
STAY TUNED, HUNTY! Guess which episode is on next week… that’s right! SNATCH GAME!
