Our teams are leaving Hong Kong today, and the claws are starting to come out. Finally the Canadians are amping up the race and starting to get cut throat. Natalie and Meaghan are the first to depart at 12:02 and we learn that we are on our way to Macau, China. Teams must get there by turbo jet ferry. Once they get there they must find the A-Ma Temple and participate in an ancient ceremony to ward of evil spirits. Once done the ceremony they will get their next clue. There are two ferries leaving 30 minutes apart. Once the teams arrive in Macau the drama begins. First Natalie and Meaghan beg some locals to let them in line ahead of them, explaining they are in a race. Nicole and Cormac and Pierre and Michel are noticeably upset about it. Hey I say all is fair when you are racing. They stayed within the confines of the rules so hey kudos to the Olympians for finally deciding to make a move. The other teams are just mad they didn’t think to do the same thing. continuing with our taxi drama, Nicole and Cormac and Pierre and Michel fight over the same cab, Nicole eventually comes out on top and the twins are sent away looking for another cab and are not happy about it. The ceremony is basically just lighting some firecrackers and all the teams do it with no major incident or drama. I was so happy to finally see some fighting and drama going on. I love all these teams but they were just too nice to each other!
Everyone is no heading over to the Macau Tower to search for their next clue. It’s time for the Road Block. “Who wants a good view of the City” Now while I love a great view, I don’t love a great view while attached to a bungee cord hanging in the air. No Thank you! Partner this one is yours. I’d rather eat snake! One person from each time must complete a bungee jump from the highest commercial bungee up 764 feet in the air! Once done they will receive their next clue. Meaghan does it for the Olympians. If you remember correctly poor Natalie was hurling her breakfast all over the airplane when she had to skydive the first leg of the race so it’s probably safer for everyone on the ground that Natalie is doing this one. Cormac faced his fear of heights and completed the task but not before his mother was on the ground hoping to God he didn’t pass out! Mickey gets up there and of course they ask him and everyone else to empty their pockets before jumping. What is the easiest way to empty your pockets? Take them off. I am pretty sure Macau has never seen a man bungee jump in teeny tiny speedo style briefs before, but they did that day because that is how he went down. I love their attitude, it is really nice to just see them enjoy themselves on the race and I will gladly take an underwear clad Mickey running around for the rest of this race! At this point Audrey and Alain are almost an hour behind everyone else because instead of taking a cab to the Macau Tower they decided to run. Who else thinks that was a BAD BAD BAD idea?
The all survive the jump and are now making their way to Happiness Street. They need to find a shop that sells Almond Biscuits to find their next clue. Trying to find a shop in this mess of a market is like finding a needle in a haystack. Finally we start to see some collaboration. The Olympians and the Twins decide to help each other out for this task. As fellow athletes the girls trust the boys. The boys really just want the express pass and tell us that if they don’t get it they WILL U-turn the girls. At least now people are starting to play the game. The express pass has finally become an issue! Will the girls hand it over to the boys? Sukhi and Jinder and Rex and Bob are all wandering around the market trying to find the clue. Sukhi and Jinder are actually standing right next to the clue box and walk away. I wanted to go into my TV and shake them. Guys I love you! But WHAT THE HECK! Keep your eyes open! Poor Sukhi has lost her mind a little this leg and is desperate for help. First she begs Mickey and Pete for help but Sukhi is a little high-strung for the boys are was seriously “Harshing their Mellow. They find Rex and Bob and Sukhi is begging Rex and Bob to help them and unlike The Twins and Olympians don’t want to help at all! I totally get it. When you are at the front of the pack you can work with people, but when you want to advance and you have the upper hand you want to leave people in the dust. Was it nice? NO. Was it necessary? YES. When you are racing there isn’t often room for nice. Rex and Bob if you win the race, take Sukhi and Jinder out for a night on the town! Would you have helped them out if you were Rex and Bob?
It’s time for the Detour. This episode the teams got to pick from Stamp it or Stomp it. In Stomp it teams must perform a traditional Macanese folk dance dressed in Macanese costumes. They need to watch and learn and when the judge feels they have done it correctly they will get their next clue. In Stamp it teams must make their ways to the ruins of St. Paul and pick up a scroll. They then must walk the streets looking for 6 shrines and stamp the emblem of each shrine on their scroll. Meaghan is hesitant about doing the dancing. She is not good at memorizing steps and routines and it is here we see the first crack in the Olympians armor. They are full-out arguing at the detour. Natalie wants to jump in and learn by doing, and Meaghan is a sit back and watch learner. The twins are just watching this go down in all its glory hoping it could be the downfall of the race. I loved watching all these manly men dressed as ladies. We find out that Ryan does sketch comedy and dresses as a lady often. Everyone freaks out at the arrival of Rex and Bob. Honestly wouldn’t you if THE MOST talented ballet dancer in Canada just walked up to your dancing challenge? Well Rex proved that just because you know ballet doesn’t mean you know Macanese folk dancing. He was pretty mortified that he didn’t get it on the first try but he and Bob were out of their pretty quick. It looked so hard that Sukhi and Jinder, Michel and Pierre and Audrey and Alain all switched tasks mid way. Audrey and Alain almost switched back when the shrines didn’t just magically appear to them but the stuck it out. Natalie and Cormac were the last at the Stomp it challenge and were bound and determined to get it! Which they did eventually. What challenge would you have picked? I know i would have looked for shrines because can not dance and I would have been there for hours and hours and probably would have begged Rex for a dance lesson or two before he left the detour!
Macau is known for being the Vegas of China and teams are now on their way to the Grand Lapa Casino. Once there they must watch and learn how to deal a hand of the popular game Fan Tan. Once they learn and deal a hand correctly they will get their next clue. OMG! This was freaking hard! I have no idea how these guys learned it without anyone explaining anything. There were buttons and chips and board. Some people got money, others lost money, while others just got their bet back. My head was spinning. It took a bit but Natalie and Meaghan and Ryan and Rob picked it up pretty quickly. How? I have no clue. The other teams struggled. Poor Sukhi was freaking out again and wanted help. No one wanted to help her though. In the end it came down to Sukhi and Jinder and Audrey and Alain. With 5 minutes separating them they leave the casino. I am sure Rachel Reilly would have been screaming I AM VEGAS all through Macau! Would you have been able to pick up how this game works? I fear I’d still be in Macau.
Everyone is on the way to Hotel Lisbon to the 4th pit stop of The Amazing Race Canada. Who comes in first? Natalie and Meaghan for the fourth time in a row. This is unprecedented. No team, nevermind an all female team, has done this. These girls are killing it! You wonder why Canada got a gold medal in hockey? It’s because we have THE fiercest women on the team. They are giving these big strong men a real run for their money. Ryan and Rob are moving quickly up the ranks to number 2. Remember when they were at the back of the pack. NOPE neither do I. Rex and Bob come in with a surprising 3rd place finish. Thankfully these guy are pulling themselves together and doing so well! I am so proud of them. Cormac and Nicole fall a few spots to fourth, and Pierre and Michel come in fifth. Mickey and Pete are behind them in sixth and Alain and Audrey fall way behind in seventh. Sukhi and Jinder are the last to arrive on the mat. Life isn’t over for Sukhi and Jinder though. Surprise its a non elimination leg and our brother and sister live to race another leg! They will have to complete a speed bump on the next leg but I have faith in them. They will pull it together and get out of last place!
Tune in next week as our races come back home to Canada and take on the Yukon Territory. Will the winter weather be too much of these teams to handle? We’ll find out! And this is the last leg the express pass can be given out. Do Natalie and Meaghan give it up to Pierre or Michel? I can’t wait to see what happens.
